Where did you get the 4.9.1 packages from? Ubuntu does not ship 4.9.1
yet. Please note that the ping plugin optionally uses new features of
liboping which are not available in version 0.3.5 (which is what you're
using). Whether those features are used is determined at compile time.
So, if you're using the packages from Debian unstable (which have been
built using liboping 1.3.4), they will not work on your Ubuntu box using
liboping 0.3.5.

That's the kind of error, I'd expect in that situation.

I cannot reproduce that error on Debian Sid using liboping 0.3.5 from
Lenny.
