Package: python-git Version: 0.1.6-1 Severity: normal python-git depends on git-core (>= 1.5.3.7), which should exclude the version from etch. Unfortunately it doesn’t: since version 1:1.4.1-2 when it started building a gitweb package, Debian git-core has included an epoch in its version:
