mimeTypes.rdf does not help. Please note that I didn't test the fresh profile with my account, but with a different user account on the same machine. Testing a fresh profile with my (unix) account, does *not* help.
That probably means that my KDE or Gnome app settings are core or the problem. But please note, that the problem does not exist with Icedove < 3. Also all the other applications including iceweasel handle links correctly.
