AIUI, if --host= is used with autoconf 2.52+ it goes into cross-compile mode. Since 16 packages and falling build-depend on autoconf 2.13, I think it's best to not do complex, error-prone etc file parsing to determine the version used, and instead let those 17 packages override dh_auto_configure. -- see shy jo
