That doesn't really change anything. The break is still needed and a
recommends would still be usefull.

What kind of problems do you mean? A recommends dos not need to be
installed so everyone is free to use the regular libvdpau1 instead. Also
everyone is free to install nvidia-libvdpau1 even without recommends so
that has to work already. I don't see a problem there.


An alternative would be to recommend libvdpau1 and have nvidia-libvdpau1
provide that as well. Maybe you ment that.
