Suggested man page entry:
--time=WORD
show time as WORD, where WORD is one of:
atime | access | use
ctime | status
mtime | modify (default)
use specified time as sort key if --sort=time
Current man page entry:
--time=WORD
show time as WORD instead of modification time: atime, access,
use, ctime or status; use specified time as sort key if
--sort=time
It would be clearer if the time aliases with the same meaning were grouped
together. Modifying ls to allow explicit specification of "mtime" or
"modify" (as in the above suggested man page entry) would clarify that
there are 3 different times which may be displayed, as well as clearly
associating the clarifying aliases with their more cryptic "xtime"
synonyms. Allowing for explicit specification of "mtime" or "modify"
would also be more consistent with general practice of allowing a default
option to be explicitly specified.
