I do experience the same problem.
$ sudo vbetool vbestate save
Can't get video state buffer size (vm86 failure)
Get video state buffer size failed

Can't save video state (vm86 failure)
Save video state failed
I do not know if it ever worked before, but I do not think so. Does anyone have
a solution for this?
I am using a VIA K8M890CE graphics chipset.
