When it is mandatory to use non-default Debian packages during the development, it is quite handy to extract all build dependencies to, say, ~/project and simply set --sysroot ~/project when compiling with GCC, binutils, et cetera. So it's really useful when compiling against any prefix other than plain "/" and doesn't really hurt to be there. I'd love to have it included, as it solves several situations which are otherwise quite hard to avoid really smoothly.
