Unfortunately, /usr/bin/java doesn't necessarily point to a java installation 
that is actually capable of running latexdraw even though there has to be one 
installed that will due to the dependencies. Wrapper scripts like this are a 
horrid hack at best.

That's an interesting observation and not one I can reproduce. However, I have 
some sympathy for the point of view that if you've taken the effort to 
install the non-free JRE you probably want it used so I'll make the switch in 
any case.

If you have a useful test-case where the performance is significantly and 
reproducibly faster with Sun JRE over OpenJDK, then the openjdk people would 
be quite interested in knowing about this. Please report this either to their 
upstream bugzilla or through "reportbug" so that it gets some attention. The 
more details about this performance problem you can provide the better.
