Recommends brings to debian a lot of unnecessary packages.
So I don't install them automatically:
% cat /etc/apt/apt.conf
APT::Install-Recommends false;
Hope many people do the same. So it will not be very annoying.
But for make it annoying less you may include xfont-base in "suggest"
list. So it will not install by default.
