After which, all _amd64.deb files fail with

Logs attached are with both official 0.1.9 and a local build of svn revision 
418,
in both cases I'd started by purging the previously installed package.

The same (local) version that started failing this weekend was working last
weekend; late last weekend python-debian and python-support were upgraded, and
the PC was turned off during the week.
