What PDA do you have? Model and system version.

Palm Centro. Not sure how to find the exact information, but the phone
info screen says "Software: Centro-1.05-SPNT" (The phone was received
from Sprint when I signed up for cellular service.) It's "Access
Powered", and the Access screen says "Phone v.2.5".

What is the output of:
$ grep version ~/.jpilot/jpilot.rc

$ grep version ~/.jpilot/jpilot.rc
version 010800
datebook_version 0
address_version 0
todo_version 0
memo_version 0

You can try using the Calendar instead of Datebook database.
In Jpilot go in File -> Preferences -> Datebook
and select "Use Calendar database"

You will have to do a sync.

If you still have the problem you will have to (privately) send me your ~/.jpilot/DatebookDB.pdb file so I can debug myself.

Bye
