I though it'd provide gdm and gdm3 but it doesn't. In this case you should disable the start target alltogether in plymouth's init script.

Well shouldn't this work out if we launch plymouth on the same VT as gdm3? Upstream has quiet a bunch of new code for this in 0.8.x.
