Some points: Jokes are great, but licenses are not the place to make them. Come to DebConf and make them over conversation and $BEVERAGE instead.
License proliferation is bad, license standardisation/consolidation is good! The DUMB license is extremely far from clear. License clarity is extremely important to ensure that people's understanding of the license is on common ground. Just witness the various debates over the years about the GPL, linking and derivative works. I'm sure there are many examples of unclear licenses that people steer clear of too. Clause 8 specifically mentions Debian, which may or may not mean that the license clashes with DFSG 8 (and possibly 5 & 7). http://www.debian.org/social_contract Perhaps you would be willing to revert to the verbatim zlib license? Clauses 4, 5 and 6 may as well not exist since they are invalidated by clause 8. Clause 8 only exists to invalidate clauses 4, 5 and 6. So, clauses 4, 5, 6 and 8 don't need to exist. The only purpose of clauses 4, 5, 6 and 8 are thus to cause confusion and/or humor. I would argue that neither of these has any place in a license and you should thus switch to a standard license (like the zlib license) -- bye, pabs http://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
