I encountered a similar (probably the same) problem a while ago, investigated it, and IIRC I found out that it is in fact an emacs bug. While not triggered with opening ordinary files, it could in fact be triggered without the use of auctex when the order of commands was chosen correctly. At least I think so, all I can find now are three mails on http://news.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.auc-tex And I had the umlaut in the filename, not the directory name. Well, even these three mails indicate that it might be an emacs problem, since Ralf with a CVS emacs didn't encounter it. Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster Inst. f. Biochemie der Univ.
