I guess yes, I have a Debian installed which is running X perfectly.

Also, try hitting "enter" - it should go load kernel, at which
point cpu usage drops to near 0 - if it does, we'll know it's
just display issue.  And another possible try: run it with
-vga std option.
Hitting "enter" does nothing, but "-vga std" resolves the problem : I can now see the graphical installer.

Well, I didn't think it was this simple ... I installed several linux distributions without problem before Frugalware.

Anyway, thank you for your help, and sorry to have opened a bug for nothing.
