thanksThe fix for this problem is to add Required-Start: $all to /etc/init.d/halt and /etc/init.d/reboot so that they run after /etc/init.d/umountfs, /etc/init.d/umountroot, and any other scripts that are supposed to be started to clean things up at shutdown.
