This bug is still present in 0.5.905-4. To answer Darren's question, No, it does not apply only to the tvtime deinterlacer. gxine simply does not enable deinterlacing for interlaced content automatically. To enable it, the Video -> Deinterlace option must be unchecked and then checked again. Probably related is that when playing progressive content, unchecking and then checking that option still enables deinterlacing (though it should be disabled on progressive content), causing video corruption (at least with tvtime).
