This is the error when installing the package in unstable at the moment. Setting up open-vm-tools (2010.03.20-243334-4) ... insserv: There is a loop between service umountnfs and open-vm-tools if stopped insserv: loop involving service open-vm-tools at depth 5 insserv: loop involving service ifupdown at depth 4 insserv: loop involving service umountfs at depth 7 insserv: loop involving service umountnfs at depth 13 insserv: exiting now without changing boot order! update-rc.d: error: insserv rejected the script header dpkg: error processing open-vm-tools (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 The fix is either to remove the $remote_fs relation and rewrite the script to not use any tools in /usr/, or to remove the $network relation and accept that the script will start after the network is started. I do not know the script enough to tell which is the correct approach.
