package: ifupdown
hi!
currently, with method 'static', the 'address' and 'netmask' parameters
are required.
i admin this might sound reasonable at first. :)
now i've got a batman interface (you can think of it as a bridge
interface), and a wireless interface which is part of the 'bridge'.
i.e. for the wlan0 interface, a static configuration - setting the mtu,
the mode, the essid, etc. - is what is wanted/needed. but i don't
want/need an ip config on it, and assigning any would simply be wrong.
making address and netmask for static optional wouldn't break anything
but just provide flexibility allowing the use of ifupdown also in less
trivial setups. so i'd like to suggest to have this changed.
regards,
Chris
