Hi, I could reproduce the problem with the strange output while testing a custom squeeze debian live cd and the latest plymouth packges from http://archive.debian-maintainers.org/daniel/packages/plymouth/ using virtualbox. Adding vga=792 does seem to fix the problem, although I get a plymouthd: ply-event-loop.c:896: ply_event_loop_watch_for_timeout: Assertion `seconds > 0.0.` failed. Also there is no splash screen while shutting down the live cd.
