The patch doesn't have the quality I prefer in Debian because it introduces changes to autotools related files acinclude and configure without build-depending on autotools. This kind of style introduced other bugs into Debian in the past which I'm trying to prevent. But I will apply the respective changes to configure.ac etc. and rerun autotools, as soon as the problem gets RC for Debian. If the problem is fixed upstream even earlier, no further action required here (except new upstream version).
