Yes you can. FWIW, the lookup in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins was added in debian in xulrunner 1.9~rc2-4, so it works in lenny, and has been added upstream in 1.9.1 (corresponding to iceweasel 3.5 and iceape 2.0).
