Thanks Karl. I did use aptitude for a while but it did not interact so well with apt-get and for various reasons I reverted to apt-get. you will find various comments in the code relating to the issues with aptitude. There will also be some discussion of this over the years in the BTS. Perhaps the issues have been fixed, but I am hesitant to move to aptitude unless there was a good reason to do so.
