Yes, I agree a update is long overdue.
In fact, 1.6.1.2 has been in beta status for years, I don't know why Matthias
just don't release a new version.

Yes in fact I could and should release it now. There had been some changes after I released it as beta, that made problems at the beginning. But these should be fixed for some time now. I just forgot that there is still nothing called release now.
There are some branches and tags related with 1.6, and some movement in trunk,
but since I could not contact Matthias to know the project status,
next releases, etc,
I just keep maintaining the last known stable release.

It would be great if he could release something soon, since Debian is
approaching
its next stable release.

I can review that branch, but it would be really preferable to have a
new upstream
release (the last one was in 2007).


I will have a look at it too. Checking if there is still something that I have to do before I can release it.
