Interesting. All three packages ship files in /etc/courier, so why would
/etc/courier not exist at configure phase? Have you tried to figure out
why this happens? Is there a bug report on LP?

Also, are you sure that this patch does not cause /etc/courier to
survive a purge of all courier-related packages?
