During the first configuration of ekiga (wizard) I selected my device as
ringing and sound out device, i.e. ATI IXP (PTLIB/ALSA). My initial tests

think solves this issue.
I suppose that ATI IXP device opens it "exclusively"or something like
that (I do not know well how sound works), hence your problem.
