Root is only required if the nvidia kernel module is *not* (loaded *and* initialized). Initialized here probably means "X is running". To access the nvidia module as a regular user, this user either needs to be in the video group or must be the user logged into X. At least it works this way with the current driver in squeeze and sid (195.36.24). Please retry with the current driver in testing/unstable and if the problem persists, provide a more detailed description of your setup, including the permissions on /dev/nvidia* > Versions of packages nvclock suggests: > pn nvidia-glx <none> (no description available) Oh, you don't have nvidia-glx installed.
