I cannot confirm that here. Using IMAP with dovecot, opening a 40k
folder from gdbm is horribly slow (10s?, only slightly faster than
initially building the cache for tokyocabinet), while the same folder
from tokyocabinet is pretty fast (~2s).

I guess this highly depends on filesystems, networking lag, etc.
