If you wait 5 more days, version 2.88dsf-9 should be available in squeeze, and if it was the same problem, you should be able to upgrade and get a working boot. If it is still there after the upgrade, please let me know. If I do not hear anything from you after that, I will assume the bug actually was the same as in #583562 and merge and close this bug.
