Thing is:
(a) This is really a bug in the latex/postscript/pdf tool
chain, in particular in ps2pdf. I.e., the bug isn't really here.
(b) For some reason people are willing to work around it by using
something other than ps2pdf, like pdflatex.
(c) But that won't work here because r4rs.tex requires latex209 and
there is no pdflatex209.
Unless you have a concrete suggestion, I'm tempted to generate the
other scheme2c-doc PDF files using pdflatex, but leave this one as is
and wait until the problem goes away due to someone fixing ps2pdf.
