Tested some more: any setting I change isn't saved.
When using strace, I see this:
open("/home/manuel/.xchat2/xchat.conf", O_RDONLY) = 6
that's the only line with xchat.conf... so, the file is opened read only
and never written to. I'm not surprised the setting is not remembered...
