On my old updated Debian box, I downloaded http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthLinux.bin and ran it and got those errors too. We're not alone either. See this old thread: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=6f59e15bf811d4e2 ... There is a reply with a manual workaround too and that worked for me.
