On my old updated Debian box, I downloaded
http://dl.google.com/earth/client/current/GoogleEarthLinux.bin and ran
it and got those errors too. We're not alone either. See this old

... There is a reply with a manual workaround too and that worked for 
me. I am surprised Google hasn't fixed it yet. :(
