Well, in fact, a better libconfig9 package than the one upstream
provides has been ready for quite some time now -- please see the RFS
from April 13th on -mentors.
However, this means (as you aptly pointed out) a transition from
libconfig8 to libconfig9 which would need to be coordinated with the
depending maintainers.

I just need an sponsor to check and point out any eventual remaining
shortcomings of the package and get it uploaded (I would update from
1.4.x to 1.4.5 then)
