Could you please try to add this stanza to the mpt-status init-file
and test if the warning is gone?
Here is the example from lighttpd (log_end_msg is the important part):

if start-stop-daemon --stop --retry 30 --oknodo --quiet \
--pidfile $PIDFILE --exec $DAEMON
then
rm -f $PIDFILE
