Hi, I believe this change is wrong and the behaviour change must be reverted.
--lzma should compress files with lzma (or at worst just abort saying it is unsupported,) but not with xz. Both formats are not compatible, xz might be capable of uncompressing lzma archives, but lzma can't uncompress xz archives. I noticed this change while investigating a failed lintian test (CC'ing the ML so that others don't spend their time investigating it too.)
