Bug#323011: spell: -b only works if you give a file name!

My goodness, -b only works if you give a file name. Otherwise it
reports no spelling errors!
$ spell -b <ss
$ spell -b <ss|wc
      0       0       0
$ spell <ss|wc
     38      38     260
$ spell -b ss|wc
     36      36     234
