Perhaps my report was unclear.  The .pyversion file contained a
trailing hyphen, which update-python-modules evidently takes
literally, at least these days; I have a working python2.4
installation, but no /usr/bin/python2.4- or /usr/lib/python2.4- tree.
Regardless, I would have appreciated a more useful error.
