I think we should do the wisest move we can think of, until some new
upstream shows up, since we're essentially our own upstream right now.
What I'd recommend to upstream is to not expose an array directly but
use some function to get error messages, and at least for now to take a
larger value than needed for gamin so that we don't need to rebuild
each time the value gets increased to avoid the warnings.
