For example: * Open a PDF file * Click the "print" button * Close the printing dialog (either by cancelling or actually printing) * Press "q" to close xpdf -> Nothing happens, since the "q" isn't recognized as the close-shortcut So either have the button lose the focus after selecting it or make the keyboard shortcuts available if a button has the focus.
