this is actually that pyxplot fails to generate valid EPS files on big-endian architectures so the figures are not present when it comes to compiling the manual. So it's not really latex that's failing here but earlier error(s) that disappear into the noise of the build log. I have actually already taken this bug upstream and the iminent 0.8.2 release will fix this problem.
