The killall is there to work around issues in older versions that didn't manage 
to successfully stop the daemon prior to upgrade, it's a stopgap for broken 
versions of the init script and should do nothing in normal operation.

In any case, the freeze has been announced now so I probably won't do any 
updates until after release.
