Package: xz-utils Version: 4.999.9beta+20100713-1 Severity: important Tags: upstream
>From the upstream maintainer: | In case of XZ Utils, a stable release is a promise about API, ABI, and | command line syntax compatibility long into the future. There's one or | two more command line changes I think I should do, but maybe liblzma ABI | could stay stable at this point excluding the presets. XZ Utils is already very usable and not very different from what it will look like in version 5.0.0, but there are a few notable differences: * Version 5.0.0 will disable the memory usage limiter by default. This change has already been made upstream (commit 792331b, 2010-08-07). The XZ_DEFAULTS environment variable can be used in .profile to bring back the default on systems where it matters. * The soname of liblzma (upstream, at least) will be liblzma.so.5. * The -1, -2, etc “presets” will be set in stone, with not exactly the same meanings they have now. The xz-utils package in Squeeze should align with other distributions on these where the cost is not too high (which means for everything except the soname). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
