This is a work-around which I've tried and works: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1525178 Yes, it's a long sequence of ridiculous nonsense steps which however DOES solve the problem. After doing that, icedove shows a firefox-like download window for a bit then opens the document in evince.
