Note also that PPDs for most HP printers are not provided by the
OpenPrinting database and therefore not provided by foomatic-db any more
for longer time. This is because HP ships their PostScript PPDs with the
HPLIP package and maintains them there (and I do not want to ship
redundant and unmaintained PPDs in foomatic-db). So these PPDs are
provided by our hplip package, in the binary package hplip-data.
So for your HP printer you should install hplip or at least hplip-data
so that you get HP's most current PPD file for your printer.
Note that from the next hplip package on the PPDs will also be
compressed. hplip-data will then provide only the
/usr/lib/cups/driver/hplip file and not the individual PPDs any more.
Then you have to proceed as in my first comment to set up your printer.
Savings in the next hplip-data package will be as follows:
