upower does not depend on usbmuxd, it "only" links against libimobiledevice1.
It is the libimobiledevice1 package which depends on usbmuxd.
afaik, usbmuxd is only started when you actually have such hardware, so what you
say above is not entirely true.

I've reassigned the bug to libimobiledevice1. Maybe the dependeny on usbmuxd can
be made optional, say via a Recommends, but I don't know libimobiledevice1 well
enough to judge if that is possible.

I don't see anything that can be done on upower's side, besides disabling the
support of iPhone/Ipod devices altogether.

Then again, gvfs, an integral core infrastructure of GNOME, also depends on
libimobiledevice. So disabling it in upower won't help you much.

Considering this issue closed from upower's pov.
