The default font was changed upstream in 0.48.0 to a generic "sans" so there is no longer any need for "Suggests: ttf-bitstream-vera" in Inkscape 0.48.0. Bitstream Vera does not support Unicode characters, and the dependency should probably be removed in the next package version.
