Thanks for testing this.

Do you know which Xorg version still worked with these drivers? What 
xserver-xorg-video-# ABI-version is compatible with these drivers?

We should fix the Provides: xserver-xorg-video-# setting in sid so people 
don't run easily into this not working combination. 

Even if the package is not usable in sid using the Xorg available in sid we 
could keep it around as a base for backporting for people who really need it 
(and want to run an old Xorg from whatever source). Maintaining it is no 
longer a big effort with the synchronized packaging of all nvidia drivers.
