I looked at the metapost manual (v1.208), which is
/usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/metapost/base/mpman.pdf on my Debian
'unstable' system. Indeed, prologues:=-1 is not one of the options.

This bug <http://bugs.debian.org/287800> was reported in 2004 and I
think back then metapost did not automatically output the
HiResBoundingBox unless prologues:=-1 was set. With that setting it
would output the high-precision box as the BoundingBox itself (which I
think violates some Adobe standard or recommendation).

Now (2010) it seems to output both the BoundingBox (with coordinates
rounded to the the nearest PostScript point) and the HiResBoundingBox
with the full info, without needing a special prologues setting.

So, I think you can safely close this bug.

I'm CCing the main metapost developer in case this is not right.
