FYI, it is optional. The git-daemon-run package only contains the runit configuration; the git-daemon binary itself lives in the git package. Nothing depends on git-daemon-run, and the git-all metapackage only recommends it. If you want to configure git-daemon without using runit, simply avoid installing the git-daemon-run package.
